Animal Description:

A wild Catalina goat is a feral goat that is a descendant of domesticated goats brought to Santa Catalina Island by Spanish missionaries in the 1800's. They are now found in the wild in many places, including Hawaii, New Zealand, Ireland, and Australia, and thrive in hot, arid, and rough lands which have been overgrazed. Catalina goats can be black, brown, reddish brown, or white, and some have other color variations. They have coarse outer hair, and both males and females can have beards.

Male Catalina goats have large horns that grow up and back from the head in large twists. The average length of the horns is 20 to 30 inches, but they can grow to 50 inches or more. Females generally do not grow horns, but may have short curved cones. Catalina goats can weigh up to 200 pounds, while females weigh about 80 pounds.
