Animal Description:
The impala is reddish-brown with a narrow black line that runs along the middle of the lower back to the tail, and a vertical black stripe appears on the back of each thigh. Impalas have tufts of black hair that cover a scent gland located just above the heel on each hind leg. The females are similar in size to the male, on average 28 to 36 inches tall, but do not have horns. Impalas are typically found in savannas, grasslands, shrublands, and light woodlands, and live 13 to 15 years.
